"Ramesses I, first
king of Dynasty 19, was a military officer from the eastern Delta. He served as
a general and vizier under Haremhab, last king of Dynasty 18, and was
designated by him as his successor. Probably quite old when he became king,
most of his monuments were finished by his son, Seti I.
Following the
model of the founders of Dynasty 18, Seti I built a mortuary chapel or cenotaph
for his father at Abydos adjacent to his own cenotaph temple. In the finely
carved and elaborately detailed reliefs, the deceased Ramesses I, seated on a
throne, is shown before piled-up offerings and an offering list. Seti I . Seti I has also
depicted himself making offerings in the same chapel." (www.metmuseum.org)
